Intrinsic Triangulations in Geometry Processing

In geometric, scientific, and visual computing, many key problems about surfaces depend not on the embedding of the surface in space, but only on its intrinsic metric. By focusing on the intrinsic geometry of a surface, one can build data structures and algorithms which are efficient and accurate even in the presence of pathological inputs. In this talk, I will discuss my recent work on data structures for encoding intrinsic triangulations of triangle meshes, quality guarantees for intrinsic retriangulation algorithms, and simplification schemes for intrinsic triangulations.
